Ethical Sourcing
We source directly from small, family-run tea estates. Every grower we work with is visited in person and must meet our standards for fair worker wages, safe working conditions, and sustainable land management.
Recyclable Packaging
All of our packaging — from the inner pouches to the outer boxes — is fully recyclable. We have eliminated all single-use plastic from our supply chain and use plant-based inks on all printed materials.
Carbon Offset Shipping
We offset the carbon footprint of every order we ship, contributing to verified reforestation and renewable energy projects. Our goal is to be carbon-neutral across our full supply chain by 2027.
Our Sourcing Philosophy
The global tea industry has a complicated history. Large-scale industrial production, while efficient, often comes at the cost of soil health, biodiversity, and fair treatment of workers. We have made a deliberate decision to work only with small-scale producers who share our values.
This means our teas are more expensive to source than mass-market alternatives. We believe the trade-off is worth it — for the quality of the tea, the livelihoods of the people who grow it, and the long-term health of the land it grows on.
Packaging and Waste Reduction
We have invested significantly in redesigning our packaging to minimise waste:
- Our outer shipping boxes are made from 100% recycled cardboard and are themselves fully recyclable.
- Tea pouches use a compostable liner rather than standard plastic film.
- We use paper tape instead of plastic tape in our packing process.
- All printed inserts are printed on FSC-certified paper with plant-based inks.
Our Carbon Offset Programme
We partner with a verified carbon offset provider to calculate and offset the emissions associated with shipping each order. The projects we support include:
- Reforestation programmes in Southeast Asia, including areas that have been historically affected by deforestation linked to agricultural expansion.
- Renewable energy projects in developing economies, helping communities transition away from fossil fuel dependence.
- Conservation of existing old-growth forests in South America.
What We Are Still Working On
We are honest about the fact that we have not solved every sustainability challenge. Some areas we are actively working to improve:
- Reducing the carbon footprint of international air freight for time-sensitive shipments.
- Developing a take-back programme for used packaging.
- Completing third-party audits of our full supply chain for labour practices.
- Increasing the proportion of certified organic products in our range.
We publish an annual sustainability report with honest assessments of our progress. If you have suggestions or questions about our sustainability work, please get in touch.
